Regular maintenance of your gutters can significantly extend their lifespan and protect your home from potential water damage!

How often do I need to service my gutters?

  • Twice a Year (Spring and Fall): Perform a thorough cleaning in the spring and fall. These seasons are typically when leaves, twigs, and debris accumulate the most. Cleaning in the fall is especially important to prevent clogs during the winter months.
  • After Heavy Storms or Winds: If your area experiences severe storms or high winds, check your gutters afterward. Debris may have accumulated even if it’s not the usual cleaning time.
  • Quarterly Checks: Consider doing a lighter check and clean every three months, especially if you have a lot of trees around your property. This can help prevent major clogs and ensure that water flows freely.
  • After Construction or Roof Work: If you’ve had work done on your roof or any nearby construction, check and clean your gutters afterward. Dust, shingle granules, and other debris may have entered the gutters during such activities.
  • Inspect During Seasonal Changes: Before the winter months, check your gutters for proper drainage and remove any debris that might cause ice dams. Similarly, in the spring, ensure gutters are clear for the rainy season.
  • Monitor Gutter Guards or Screens: If you have gutter guards or screens installed, check them regularly to make sure they are not clogged or damaged. While these can reduce the frequency of cleaning, they still require occasional inspection.
